| Description [Abstract]: | The church of Santa Maria del Alba de Tàrrega, designed by Brother Josep de la Concepció, was built from scratch on the site of the old church. The original vestiges, dating from 1672, are still preserved in the municipal archives and allow us to see that the works of Santa Maria del Alba faithfully followed the instructions of the friar. This is a Baroque-style church formed by a single nave with interlinked side chapels, within the Jesuitic typology (derived from the Gesù in Rome, designed by da Vignola). However, in Catalonia this type of building had been common since the Gothic period. Inside, we can highlight the paintings by Minguell and the Holy Thorn relics (the reliquary is only shown in processions), as well as the image of Santa Maria del Alba (patron saint of all those named Alba in Catalonia).
Source: Catalunya.com |
